Feeder: 156 Slaughter: 32 Replacement: 92 Slaughter cows made up 25 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 1 percent, and feeders 74 percent. The feeder supply included 41 percent steers, 29 percent heifers, and 30 percent bulls. Near 22 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs. The slaughter steer market was a lot like the weather, hanging over your head and threatning but not really doing anything. Slaughter steers were quoted mixed from 1.00 lower to 3.00 higher. They averaged 111.65/cwt or .66/cwt lower than last week. Choice Holstein steers were quoted steady to 2.00 higher. Choice Holsteins averaged 83.44/cwt or 2,54/cwt higher than last week. Choice slaughter heifers were quoted mixed from 3.00 lower to 3.00 higher. Heifers averaged 106.40/cwt or 1.10/cwt lower than last week. Choice Boxed Beef closed the week at 213.15/cwt or .69/cwt higher than last week. Cattle futures for February closed the week at 126.52 or 1.55 higher than last week. At the New Holland Hog sale on Monday, slaughter barrows and gilts sold 2.00-3.00 lower on another very light test. Not enough slaughter sows for a market test. A higher undertone noted on the few sows offered. Slaughter boars sold steady on another very light test. There was a Feeder Pig sale in New Holland this week. Compared to last month, feeder pigs sold sharply lower on a light test. Pierre, SD Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 01/18/2019 Receipts: 2967 Last Week: 6468 Year Ago: 4330 Compared to last week: Feeder steers from 600 lbs. to 700 lbs. were usually 6.00 to 8.00 lower with instances of 10.00 to 12.00 lower, the 701 lbs. to 850 lbs. steers were mostly 2.00 to 4.00 lower. Feeder heifers from 550 lbs. to 650 lbs. were 4.00 to 6.00 lower, while the 651 lbs. to 700 lbs. were 1.00 to 3.00 lower and the 701 lbs. to 750 lbs. were mostly 4.00 to 6.00 lower, with instances of 8.00 lower. Weather shortened up the supply of cattle for todays sale with a winter storm moving through the area, making buyers reluctent to purchase cattle with the adverse weather conditions at hand. The cattle that made it to town were fully preconditioned, home raised and most were in light to moderate flesh condition.
